The Terblans Trail
The Terblans Trail

Description

This is our favorite forest trail starting with a fantastic drive through the Gouna Gorge to Kom se Pad to the trail head. A hidden gem, known mostly to the locals, this is the secret heart of the forest.

The Terblans Trail involves a short, fairly steep climb into and out of the valley of the Rooiels Stream. Everywhere else the route is more or less level. The trail is named after the Terblans tree, a fairly upright tree which can grow up to 25m. It has the unusual distinction of being the tallest growing member of the proteaceae family in Southern Africa. It looks nothing like the protea but it is a member of the genera of this plant family.

It is a quiet, unspoilt and peaceful walk, not many people, off the beaten track. It follows the Outeniqua Hiking Trail before dropping to a stream which feeds the Rooiels River. A wonderful walk through the forest taking you back to the time of the woodcutters.!
